Trauma Informed Bal-A-Vis-X (TIB)

TIB is specifically designed to address trauma, anxiety, focus, regulation and ADHD. It consists of 45 exercises and four multi-tiered movement patterns.

The purpose of TIB is to bring about a state of self-induced, self-monitored physical mindfulness in gradually increasing increments. Mindfulness, a kind of meditation addresses trauma by focusing and quieting the brain. The exercises are done without talking; other than sound of bag or ball, they are done in silence by oneself.

TIB was initially developed for children to practice by self in the classroom, but the exercises and patterns equally benefit adults.

The exercises and patterns can be learned during a hybrid training of R-BAVX & TIB or in a TIB only session.Training is suitable for teachers, therapists, social workers, counsellors, and parents. For more information on training please email Jane

"Patterned, repetitive, rhythmic, somatosensory activity elicits a sensation of safety by regulating the stress response system" Dr Bruce Perry

Trauma healing, says Perry, requires the 3 R’s that are essential to a child’s healthy emotional development and well-being - Regulate Relate Reason.

For the dysregulated  and disconnected child this approach moves from the bottom part of the brain to the top.

How does this approach apply to Bal-A-Vis-X

  1. Regulate - Bal-A-Vis-X begins one on one. We create safety and connection through the non-verbal approach to the exercises.
  2. Relate - developing safe relationships with adults and peers. We create rhythmic patterns together, which provides synchronicity and entrainment.
  3. Reason - Bal-A-Vis-X exercises are sequential from simple to complex. Each new exercise is built on previously mastered techniques. In time students are encouraged to peer teach providing increased self-esteem and social emotional resilience.

A new exercise causes moderate, tolerable alarm, not panic. It is pressure that can be handled calmly.

Trauma can destroy even healthy, habitual self-regulation. Regaining resilience requires desensitisation  - gradually reducing the power of toxic stress triggers by repetitive, predictable, tolerable stress so anxiety becomes manageable and no longer toxic.

In Bal-A-Vis-X this occurs naturally by the many tImes we all drop bags and balls during exercises, laugh about it, pick them up and start over.

Bal-A-Vis-X is Safe Slow Rhythmic Repetitive Patterned Predictable Physical Movement.
